Probably made as a bedspread and at some point has had a frilly edge attached to hang down over the sides of the mattress. Looks to be of matrimonial significance as features a man and woman in a scene of courtship, with the man playing a guitar while the lady accompanies him on the trumpet. Very charming folk art.
