Antique Ghiordes Rug 137 x 267cm / 4'6" x 8'9"

£2,880
From the Western Anatolian village of Ghiordes comes this cheerfully coloured rug, with a bright pinky-red ground. This colour almost certainly comes from the insect dye, cochineal as it is a particular shade of purply-pinky red that is synonymous with the beetle. Woven at least 150 years ago, this is what I call an old rug! At either end of the central field is a panel of turquoise which works supremely well with the cochineal and in fact, is very popular today. The floral motifs in the darker border make a good counter balance for the exuberance of the field.
Repaired to a high standard, this fine old rug will provide many more years of silent charm to your home.
