Antique Malayer Carpet 307 x 418cm / 10'1" x 13'8"

£7,200
The field of this carpet has many shades of terracotta red, streaked with some richer tomato red. This is not repair, but how the carpet was originally made and is in fact a very attractive feature of antique handmade carpets. The effect is to break up the repetitiveness of the overall 'Herati' design and give the eye some relief, while contributing some drama and interest. It's a very effective technique and was perfected over hundreds of years so that although it looks spontaneous and random, there is very much an art to it. You only have to look at modern carpets which seek to imitate, to see how difficult it is to do without seeming stiff and contrived. Modern rugs fail completely in this aspect- as well as others I won't go into.
A lovely, warm carpet that will economically cheer up your living room or dining area.

Occasionally I also do a home trial, numerous factors can vastly change how a piece looks and feels in a room. Get in touch for more information
