Very Large Serapi

Serapi carpets are so named for their similarity to the designs used in Mexican blankets and picked up this description from the American trade. Today, it denotes a Heriz carpet from the district of North West Persia of superior quality and this example is truly superior. The massive size is disguised by the dramatic scale of the drawing. The huge medallion and wide border are perfectly in step, so from the pictures, one could be forgiven for thinking this is merely a 4 x 3m carpet, when it is in fact almost exactly 600 x 400cm or 19'6" x 13'10". Also of note are the giant, pale blue palmettes hanging from the medallion at either end. Each one is over a metre long! The colours are sumptuous, with a brick red background, ivory corners and a pale green and olive medallion. It is a most striking carpet and although worn in places, still strong and floor worthy.

Occasionally I also do a home trial, numerous factors can vastly change how a piece looks and feels in a room. Get in touch for more information
