A very dramatic tribal rug from the Qashqai, Southern Iran. The bold medallions in ivory and red on a midnight field are boldly contrasting. One can clearly see every detail as the design has a great and unusual clarity. Although the field is filled, it is not quite the blizzard of confusing flowers, widgets and animals one usually sees. here each detail is carefully spaced and picked out quite precisely. I love the chickens in the medallions, these ones are heads down and pecking!
