Early 19th century Sewan Kazak 183 x 226cm / 6'0" x 7'5"
Fresh in to inventory, this stunning, rare example of Caucasian village weavers art is pure pleasure for the eyes. The bold green medallion, filled with myriad stars, beautifully abrashed, floats on a brick red field with trees within a wonderful ivory border filled with insects. The extra square proportions lend additional power to the already bold design and the glowing natural dyes are surprisingly subtle.
There are very few Sewan kazaks of this age and character in existence and I am so pleased to have found this one, in relatively good condition. Mostly in thick pile, there is some corrosion to the green and a couple of old wrinkle repairs and slight wear to the pile in the lower half.
There is one pre-restoration photo at the end, so you can see how little work was necessary

Occasionally I also do a home trial, numerous factors can vastly change how a piece looks and feels in a room. Get in touch for more information
