17th Century Indo-Portuguese Embroidered Coverlet 212 x 300cm / 7'0" x 9'10"

£18,000

A silk on linen embroidery stitched in Bengal, India for the Portuguese market, with a myriad of fascinating animals including elephants, leopards, mythical creatures and fabulous be-hatted riders on rearing horses, within a border of opposing birds with twigs in their beaks. The ancient symbol of power, the double headed eagle, features prominently in the centre. Many other recognisable flora and fauna on this fabulous embroidery in exceptional condition considering it is around 400 years old. A few small marks, light stains.
Makes a great background hanging or can be used for its original purpose- to cover a bed during the day!

Occasionally I also do a home trial, numerous factors can vastly change how a piece looks and feels in a room. Get in touch for more information
