Superb 'Nim' Suzani Early 19th C 101 x 163cm
I am delighted to find this outstanding 'Nim' Suzani and to offer it for sale. 'Nim' is taken from the Persian language meaning 'Half', as it is approximately half the normal size of a regular Suzani and 'Suzani' means 'Needle', as in the needle used to embroidery these incredible, dowry objects. Brought to the wedding as a gift for her husband-to-be these beautiful embroideries are a store of wealth as well as a clear demonstration of the brides skills. She would have been much in demand for the high quality stitching she produced here. A stunning array of silks are used in this lively piece which, as the best embroideries have, is used to draw a highly animated field of diverse and colourful flowers on stems, that are stirred as if by a breeze. The eight pointed stars in blue in the main border have an assortment of pink flowers at each point, all encircled by a pink and blue wavy ribbon that undulates and sprouts tiny shoots, within an ivy of lush green that winds like a river around each flowerhead and flows seamlessly through the border. So much energy and art in such a small piece- it really punches above its weight and is certainly one of the best I have handled. In excellent condition with original backing.
Occasionally I also do a home trial, numerous factors can vastly change how a piece looks and feels in a room. Get in touch for more information
