18th Century European Needlework, Probably French 165 x 248cm / 5'5" x 8'2"

£5,950

Obviously inspired by a verdure tapestry this beautiful needlework was probably made in France, and is a monumental piece of work. Needlework is much slower than tapestry so would have taken much longer than a tapestry of equivalent size. The subject matter is familiar and soothing, layers of green and blue foliage, a pair of birds and various flowering plants in front of a distant background, possibly mountainous and a fair attempt at aerial perspective has been made, where things further away appear lighter in colour. An almost regal border with a gold background and a leafy vine winding around a pole. Freshly lined, conserved and lightly cleaned, ready for your wall.

5'5" x 8'4"
