Antique Bidjar Kelleh 5'7" x 11'9" / 171 x 358cm
A stunning rug from the town of Bidjar in North West Persia, the really good examples have the detached medallions freely floating in the field, and this one does it beautifully. Those sky blue blossoms, one at each end, float in a delightfully contrasting pink red field and an enormous bonus is the high, original pile height over the entire centre. All too often these rugs have been used too much or neglected and become worn, which distracts from the art, this incredibly rare rug has survived -with the exception of a few small signs- in outstanding good condition. The dreaded moth did find a small corner to chew on, just where there is some discolouration from a slight stain, otherwise the rug is in excellent original condition.
The field is encompassed by an unusual border of flowering shrubs on a corroded black field, a real delight and I am very proud to present this rare rug. There will not be its like for some time.....
Occasionally I also do a home trial, numerous factors can vastly change how a piece looks and feels in a room. Get in touch for more information
