Antique 'Mochtashem' Kashan 135 x 204cm
'Mochtashem' was the name of a famous workshop, set up in central Persia around the turn of the 19th century, and its aim was to produce the finest and silkiest rugs for wealthy patrons. They are identifiable by the 'Kurk' wool used, wool which was taken only from lambs, from the neck and underarm area, so it is the softest and shiniest wool possible. Also, the sideboards are overbound in bright purple silk, as is the case here. Hard to find in good condition, like this example, and with a wonderful yellow ground. A really superb weaving that is hard to come by.
