Antique 'Sewan' Kazak 137 x 180cm / 4'6" x 5'11"

Late 19th century Caucasian rug with a rich red ground, on which floats the classic 'Sewan' medallion that enables us to identify it. Like many caucasians, the graphics are simple but effective. The bold medallion in white stands out effectively on the rich madder ground, with the field filled with an assortment of flowers and widgets. The border is well executed arrangement of flowers with alternately coloured petals that makes them look like they are spinning, within a leafy vine, on a corroded brown background. In very good condition, with original ends and sides and just showing light wear, this charming antique rug is good for another 100 years.
